Ingredients
For the Meatloaf
700 g ground beef
150 g minced onion
1 egg
2–3 tbsp breadcrumbs
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp tomato paste
For the Sauce
1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp
tomato paste
1 onion, chopped
2 carrots, sliced
1 tsp sugar (to balance acidity)
Salt and pepper to taste
1 cup water or broth
For the Mashed Potatoes
4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
2–3 tbsp butter
1/2 cup warm milk
Salt to taste
Instructions1. Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, minced onion, egg, breadcrumbs, tomato paste, paprika, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce (if using).
Mix gently with your hands until the ingredients are evenly combined.
Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it into a baking dish.
2. Make the Sauce
In the same baking dish or a saucepan, mix tomato sauce, tomato paste, chopped onions, sliced carrots, sugar, salt, pepper, and water/broth.
Pour the sauce around the meatloaf, making sure the carrots are submerged in liquid so they become soft and flavorful.
3. Bake the Meatloaf
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes until the top is slightly browned and the sauce has thickened.
Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing—this helps it stay juicy and hold its shape.
4. Prepare the Mashed Potatoes
Boil the potatoes in salted water until fork-tender.
Drain and mash them with butter, warm milk, and salt.
Mix until creamy and smooth. Add more milk if needed.
