You’ve been using a phone for a long time, but YOU HAVE NO IDEA about these things.
We use our smartphones every day — to message, navigate, capture photos, or even work — but few people realize just how powerful these pocket-sized devices have become. Today, your phone can do more than just connect you to the world; it can literally measure the speed of a moving car with surprising accuracy.
3.
That’s where the Speedcam Anywhere app comes in — an innovative mobile tool that turns any smartphone into a portable speed radar. Developed by a team of British researchers, this app uses advanced artificial intelligence to analyze short video clips of passing vehicles, calculate their real-time speed, and even compare it to local traffic limits.
Imagine simply pointing your phone at a car as it drives by — within seconds, the app estimates its speed, reads the license plate, and produces a detailed report complete with proof of speeding. It’s a remarkable example of how far mobile technology has evolved, blurring the
lines between everyday consumer tools and professional-grade systems.

Speedcam Anywhere – Turn your phone into a mobile radar
The Speedcam Anywhere app allows you to capture passing cars and calculate their speed in real time.
Feel like a traffic cop with the help of Speedcam Anywhere.
Installed on the smartphone, the application allows users to record the speed of moving vehicles using advanced artificial intelligence, report Auto Moto and The Guardian .
Just point the camera: the phone turns into a real mobile radar.
How does it work?
You film a short video of a car passing by.
The clip is automatically uploaded to a server.
The AI algorithm calculates the speed based on the images, compares it to the local limit and generates a detailed report with proof of speeding.
By reading the license plate number, the app also displays additional information about the vehicle.
Precision
According to the developers, the error is only ±3 km/h for users of the paid Pro version .With the free database, the error reaches about 10% .
Propagation and reactions
Already available in the UK , the app is not yet listed in the French App Store and is marked as unavailable for Android.
It was created by a British team with the aim of improving road safety “by drawing attention to the problem of speeding.”
However, this raises concerns among some drivers about possible abuse and “opportunistic” reporting.
